Cleaning

How is there still this much stuff in there?

Dan got most of the walls, cabinets, and other things out this weekend, which left a 40 year funk all over the walls in need of scrubbing off. eeeew.

Thankfully, it came up easily with some soap, water, and elbow grease.  We plan to re-use the skins (the tan "walls") and paint them when we start putting things back together.

When in doubt, throw it out!

Today's post is brought to you by... plastic gloves, dust masks, and crowbars.

Everything needs to come out, even if we plan to put it back in.  Among all the 1970s era yellow plastic and wood, we found some interesting items including: three pairs of reading glasses, a dragon knife, a wallet, about $5 in change, and the original owners manual.  Turns out, the first owners are from the same little town as Dan!

Inside a 1974 Airstream...and what we are starting with.

This slideshow shows the layout of the 1974 Overlander twin in clean restored condition.  Our Airstream currently shares this layout, but not for long!

It's been helpful to see how all the pieces fit together, and has inspired our plans for the future layout of our Airstream.

Here's some pictures and videos of other finished Airstream remodels, we're looking to do something similar!

The Airstream!

So, the day has come.  We've been talking about finding an old 70s era Airstream to turn into a dream home we can take with us on honeymoon adventures for what seems like forever.  We've been haunting craigslist for months, waiting until everything fell into place and we could finally start looking for our new tiny home on wheels.

We had checked out a few Airstreams in Delaware, but they were in such terrible shape, we worried about getting them home.  Last weekend we were planning to go check out two in northern PA and NJ, but at the last minute, we were able to look at one in Baltimore, and decided to bring it home!

It was a bit of a scary ride as we hoped the old tires would hold out until we got it home, but here we are!
